The Credit Union League of Connecticut's Career Opportunities is a placement referral service for member credit unions. Each month, the League will mail or e-mail to all member credit union CEOs a flyer containing the following information:

Positions wanted

Applicants seeking careers in credit unions will be able to indicate their interests and qualifications, with the League coordinating the communication between applicant and credit union.

All ads will be "blind." The names of the applicants will not be listed, but each will be number-coded. Credit unions may request, by number, specific résumés to be forwarded to them; however, the League will not notify applicants of such request.

Applicants must submit a written synopsis of their résumé (no more than 100 words) to be used as the print ad. A complete résumé must accompany all "Positions Wanted" ads. Ads will be published for two months unless requested by the applicant to pull the ad after one month. If the applicant wishes his/her ad to appear for longer than two months, he/she must request it in writing. Ads will not appear for more than six consecutive months.

Credit unions may list openings indicating the necessary skills and requirements for the job. Credit unions must submit a written synopsis of their ad (no more than 100 words). COLLECTION SUPERVISOR

Department: Manager, Real Estate and Lending Collections
Salary Range: $20.92 Minimum - $ 34.78 Maximum/hr.
Hours:  Monday-Friday 8:10 a.m. - 4:40 p.m.
 
Responsibilities:

▫ Supervises and monitors the efficiency of the daily activities of the Collection Department.  Monitors and reviews department activities ensuring compliance with federal and state laws, internal controls and Credit Union policies and procedures, in addition to achieving quality service standards in service to our members. Recommends and assists in the implementation of new policies and procedures as warranted.

▫ Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; and resolving problems. Develops annual coaching plans for direct reports.  Conducts performance reviews for each assigned direct report and submits salary increase recommendations.

▫ Maintains active control over assigned delinquent or problem deposit and loan accounts. Contacts members to discuss account status and determine payment arrangement suitable to the Credit Union and the member. Researches and contacts members to resolve issues relative to short payments, terminated/retired payments and uncollected payments. Responsible for maximizing recovery payments

▫ Handles delinquent Real Estate loans in accordance with applicable law, closely monitoring the process through pre-sale or foreclosure in order to minimize losses to the Credit Union.

▫ Recommends the write-off of loans judged to be uncollectible. Reviews terms of loan contract and legal requirements to determine and recommend appropriate method of collection (i.e., collection agency, attorney, etc.). Prepares accounts for write-off and review.

▫ Prepares monthly lending delinquency, risk-based delinquency, and negative share reports for Vice President, Lending. Prepares monthly write-off summary reports for presentation to the Loan Advisory Committee.

▫ Handles the repossession, sale and disposition of collateral according to state statutes.  Completes necessary paperwork with Bankruptcy Courts to protect Credit Union interests.  Actively pursues legal deficiency balances.

▫ Works closely with vendors such as attorneys, repossession companies, and collection agencies to best represent the Credit Union and ensure proper service levels are being met for members.

▫ Serves as a resource to members, co-workers, officers, other departments and auditors relative to consumer and VISA loan collection and cash payment issues. Provides financial counsel to members.

▪  Assists National Credit Union Administrations (NCUA) examiners and public accounting firm, hired by the Credit Union, with annual review.
▪  Prepares concise and clear written audit and Branch reports reflecting the adequacy of internal control and recommendations for improvements.  Participates in the review and evaluation of management responses to audit findings and recommendations.
▪  Provides support for the annual audit and specific audit planning process by identifying potential audit areas and concerns.
▪  Performs related duties and special requests as assigned.

Requirements

▪  Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business from a four-year college or university and three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Audit experience in a bank or credit union preferable.
▪  CPA/CIA preferred, but not required.
▪  Working knowledge of Microsoft (MS) in a Windows environment with an intermediate to advanced level of proficiency in word processing (Word) and spreadsheet (Excel) software applications is required. Aries extract beneficial.
▪  Ability to independently apply knowledge of Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS) and Generally ▪  Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

▫ Tests internal controls and compliance with policies and operation procedures;

· Maintains all credit files up-to date and inspection/audit ready.
· Books all loans to core operating system including extensions, modifications and renewals.
· Sets up and maintains all collateral and “tickler” files regarding sales programs, customer contact, covenant compliance, and financial data requests.
· Contacts and coordinates with appropriate Business Development Officer and branch personnel regarding delivery of all verbal approvals or denials.
· Composes, mails, and logs all written denials.
· Acts as primary liaison between underwriting/administration team at Credit Union Service Organization (CUSO), Business Development Officers, branch personnel, local attorneys, and member businesses.
· Handles requests for loan advances or paydowns, transfers, wires, credit checks, etc.
· Screens for compliance with minimum policy standards.
· Collaborates with Manager, Business Services on “best fit” credit product solutions.
· Reviews loan documentation, calculates fees and coordinates all closings.
· Acts as primary service representative and first point of problem resolution for all member businesses.
· Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:
· Associate’s degree in Business, Finance, or related field and five to seven years’ experience in a financial institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Experience managing workflow among local and remote team members a plus.
