Strategic Partner News: CO-OP Shared Branching

CO-OP Shared Branching Reaches Milestone with 4,000 U.S. Locations

CO-OP Financial Services said it marked a significant milestone in convenience, as members of participating credit unions now have account access to 4,000 CO-OP Shared Branching locations throughout the United States.

In addition to the 4,000 physical, full-service shared branch locations, credit union members also have access at 2,300 CO-OP Shared Branching kiosk locations.

CO-OP Financial Services said its Shared Branching allows credit unions to share facilities and accept guest members. As a result, credit unions can offer their members a collective branch network comparable to the largest national bank competitors. CO-OP Shared Branching ranks fourth in the nation by number of branches, only behind Wells Fargo/Wachovia, Bank of America and Chase.

"Despite the emergence of new access channels, such as mobile banking, credit union members still want the ability to walk into a branch to handle their financial needs, and they want that branch to be convenient," said Carroll Beach, president/COO, CO-OP Shared Branching. "This milestone is a triumph of the credit union philosophy of cooperating to better serve members."

Strategic Partner News: Invest In America

Invest In America Rolls Out New 'Private Offer' Incentives

In a move to bolster even stronger CU support for Invest in America, CUCorp is rolling out additional incentives for the car-buying discount program.

The new "Private Offer" provides an additional $750 off GM vehicles when a member gets CU financing. Invest in America's standard GM Supplier Pricing discount of 5% to 10% off MSRP still applies.

This additional discount, CUCorp CEO David Adams told Credit Union Journal, is to be used by credit unions for targeted marketing. "Maybe the credit union has a certain number of members who have car loans that are maturing.

They can now offer them an additional $750 discount just for being a credit union member, and the credit union is guaranteed to get the loan if the member buys the car."

CUs may make the offer only to specific employee groups. From March 1 to April 30, the offer will be extended to healthcare professionals; May through June will be for education professionals; July through August will be for public service professionals; September through October will be for labor and trade professionals; and, November through December will be for military professionals.

To participate, CUs must register for an offering 45 days in advance of its start date either by going to
www.lovemycreditunion.org or by contacting Invest in America staff at CUCorp. Participating credit unions will be sent a marketing mailer to send to eligible members that includes a code so the member can come specifically to that credit union for financing to receive the discount.

CUCorp is a subsidiary of the Michigan CU League.

Young Professionals Council

Connecticut League to Form

Young Credit Union Employee Collaboration Council

In a time where many credit unions are setting their sights on attracting the next generation of members, the Credit Union League of Connecticut is launching an inaugural young credit union employee networking council.

Following the success of the Filene Research Institute’s 30 Under 30 Program, the Connecticut League is recruiting credit union employees under the age of 35 to participate in a year-long networking and collaboration council. In Filene’s model, 30 credit union leaders under the age of 30, banded together as an entrepreneurial swat team to come up with ten implementable ideas to attract a new generation of credit union members, employees and volunteers. Following a presentation at the California Credit Union League Annual Meeting, many of these ideas were spearheaded by credit unions across the country as viable ways to focus on the future of the industry.

The League is seeking young credit union professionals to participate in this council. To read the entire description, which includes the charactertistics we are looking for in the individuals, click Young Professonals Council Letter to see what was recently sent out to affiliated credit unions in Connecticut.

Improve Margins & Boost Your Credit Union’s Bottom Line

Add Convenience as You Add Members

Open Member Access to Their Accounts Almost Anywhere

CO-OP Shared Branching, the national credit union-owned and -operated network, can make your credit union be “located” in more places than you once thought possible. Your credit union can have thousands of locations nationwide instantly. Because with CO-OP Shared Branching, every branch becomes your branch!

Convenience and access are what matter most to members. With CO-OP Shared Branching, your members will get the access they want whether they are near home or far away. Shared branching competes head-on with the multiple branches of national banks, and blows away the availability of small, local banks. That’s competition with an advantage.

CO-OP Shared Branching goes even farther:

Your credit union not only competently serves your membership, it also helps retain members by expanding your hours of operation without adding staff or overtaxing your current employees.

Your credit union can boost its bottom line by acquiring transactions at your branches. Yes!  You earn every time your credit union handles another credit union’s transaction.

You can also boost disaster recovery. How? Wide geographical access to member accounts is often critical during local and national emergencies.

Competition with large banks is controlled if not actually reduced, positioning your credit union in the marketplace for growth and desirability.

Taking advantage of today’s technology, your credit union can even use text messaging and GPS locator services to reach members everywhere at any time!

Imagine serving your members just about anywhere! The CO-OP Network provides more than 28,000 surcharge-free ATMs, including 9,000 that take deposits. Still growing, the network serves all 50 states, plus 10 countries. It doesn’t come any better than that!

There’s so much to the CO-OP Shared Branching network that it’s in your best interest to investigate—as well as participate in.

Offer members service options during disaster recovery.

Retain members because of your added convenience.

Attract new members because of your convenience as well.

Provide service access to members who travel or relocate.

Effect reactivation of inactive member accounts.

Take advantage of a cost-effective way to grow.

Improve your competitiveness by combining resources.

Support the credit union philosophy of cooperation.

Practice the philosophy of people helping people.

There is no end to how your credit union can thrive...

Our Strategic Partners

Focus on...   Strategic Partners

In today's ever changing business environment, it is unrealistic to expect any business to develop and maintain all the resources, technologies, products, employees, and services necessary to effectively compete in today’s dynamic marketplace.

In order for organizations to grow and be able to compete effectively, they need to form mutually beneficial strategic alliances with other organizations for the purpose of maintaining and enhancing their market viability. These alliances serve to integrate people, processes, technologies, products, and services where there might otherwise be a degradation in these relative capabilities.

Your League has formed strategic alliances that we believe will exponentially increase our ability to provide improved products and services to all of our affiliated credit unions, and in turn help improve service to their members. These strategic partners have come together to create unique and dynamic products and services that, for the most part, can only be obtained by affiliated credit unions of your League!

We are excited about these new partnerships and encourage you to contact them for further information. Following is a list of our current Strategic Partners, along with their contact information. We will be hosting information sessions on each in the very near future and encourage you to attend.
